6 Steps to Create a Monthly Lesson Plan

Step 1: Choose Learning Goals

It is very important for you to know what set of specific skills and knowledge you want your students to develop in one subject or lesson before you start planning. Make separate lists for what you want to achieve and what would be the set of skills required for that. It is very important that you even work on developing skills and not only knowledge. What you want to achieve should be possible and easy for you to work for.

Step 2: Pick Exciting Topics

Try to pick up interesting topics from the curriculum you have to follow. Find a way to make a boring class interesting. You can also make a connection with the topic and the student’s interests so that they can understand the topics being taught better. Do not make controversial statements, but try and build your lesson around their likes. You can also see more templates like 2 Week Lesson Plans.

Step 3: Try to Know your Students

This is definitely a must because it will help you choose what kind of goals you can set and accordingly change the way the class performs. You need to know what your students are good at, what you need to help them develop with skills and language, what are their preferred learning styles, special talents, etc. Plan your lessons accordingly, so that understanding you would be easier for them too. Your main goal should be able to aline with their needs and talents, so make sure you make your simple plan around that.

Step 4: Teaching Methods

Your lesson plans should consist of a sample list of all the different types of teaching methods you can use to make a lesson easier and understandable to your students. It would facilitate the student’s learning preferences. Try making them interact with others, allow practical knowledge to take its course to get to a student, group activities, introduce art like music, JAM(Just A Minute) sessions, etc. so that each student has equal opportunities to showcase their talents in the class. You can take the help of sample lesson plans from other faculty members to make one of your own. You can also see more on Small Group Lesson Plan Templates.

Step 5: List of Materials Required

Provide as many materials as you can for your students and allow them to explore their talents through them. It helps in the learning process of a child. Try audio-visual lessons which are appropriate and connect to the lesson you are teaching. Give them worksheets, assignments, questionnaires, quizzes, group discussions, etc. to make them work hard and know what is being taught in class.

Step 6: Assessment and Evaluation

An assessment doesn’t mean testing the students. It means that you have to be a keen observer to see and understand whether or not the students were comfortable with your teaching and also what they have grasped from your class. Make a fair assessment of all the students and the results of the lesson taught. Give them a comfortable environment to learn in ways they like and ask for feedback about your classes regularly and evaluate yourself accordingly.
