A preschool weekly lesson plan should be such that it keeps the child engaged at all times so that they don’t get bored It should also aim at teaching the child how to figure out what is to happen next. The main idea is to inculcate a sense of routine and discipline in the child while at the same time ensuring that the child is having fun while doing that.
5 Steps to Create an Engaging Weekly Lesson Plan
Step 1: Deciding On What Value to Teach
Every week the lesson should be planned in such a manner that the child gets to learn certain values every day. Say for example for one day the value to be taught is ‘sharing is caring’. Similarly more such values need to be taught every day. This is the most important thing that should be focussed on in any institution that deals with child development.
Step 2: Planning Activities to Teach the Value
Once the value for each day is chosen the rest of the day’s tasks need to be planned in a manner that they reiterate that value. For example, you can tell them a story which talks about sharing. If you are teaching the children that one should talk politely even when he or she is angry then you can tell them a story about how a certain character did that and was rewarded as a result.
Step 3: Group Activities
Group activities keep the children engaged and also eliminates their fear of being ignored. Children tend to feel separated when not engaged in group activities. The group activities can be something like solving problems together or an adult supervising their collaborative effort in creating something.
Step 4: Create a Table in Word
Once you have decided upon what values to teach and what resources and techniques to use it is time to create a table in MS Word and put the activities in the correct cell. Don’t forget to include activities that focus on developing their motor skills and logical reasoning skills as well. Several toys help in this. Once done save the Word document.
Step 5: Observe to Update the Timetable
You might not get the timetable right in your first attempt. The transition from one task to the next should be smooth and should not feel hurried. Try including audio-visual programs in your activities. They generally tend to attract the children’s attention faster but should not be over-used. See if you are getting the desired results. If not try changing a few things in the next week’s timetable and repeat the process.
