What Is the Definition of Fitness?
Fitness is defined as the quality or state of being physically fit. Physical fitness refers to a general state of health and well-being and the ability to perform aspects of physical activities, occupations, and daily chores. Physical fitness is typically achieved through proper nutrition, moderate to intense physical exercises, and a lot of rest.
Back in the days, fitness was defined as the capacity to perform daily activities without undue fatigue. However, with the changes going on in people’s lifestyles, modern definition of fitness describe a person’s capability to perform specific functions or the human’s adaptability to cope with various situations. Fitness is now considered to be the measure of the body’s ability to function effectively in work and leisure activities, to be healthy, to be immune from common illnesses, and to meet urgent situations.
When talking about specific functions, fitness is attributed to people who possess significant aerobic and anaerobic abilities, such as strength or endurance to name a few. A holistic definition of fitness describes it as an increased work capacity across a long duration and involves the different components of being physically fit, the mastery of the different attributes of fitness including strength, endurance, speed, balance and coordination, and being able to improve the amount of work in a given time.
What Are the Components of Fitness?
Fitness has 5 components that are directly related to a person’s health, and can be measured directly: cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition. And another 6 components are more skill-related and are directly related to sports and daily activities: agility, balance, coordination, power, reaction time, and speed.
Cardiovascular Endurance
This refers to engaging in physical activities for long periods of time. One of the most common ways to measure this is by stress tests on a treadmill or stationary bike. To improve one’s cardiovascular endurance, one must engage in aerobic exercises consistently while reaching appropriate target heart rates.
Muscular Endurance
This is when the muscles have been used repetitively without causing extreme fatigue for an extended time period. This can be measured by a 60-second push-up test, or a 60-second crunch test.
Muscular Strength
This is when force is produced using one’s muscles. This has also been defined as the maximum push or pull that can be exerted by a muscle group. Testing muscle strength includes how many pull-ups, push-ups, or bicep curls an individual can do in a given moment.
Flexibility
This refers to moving specific joints or group of joints through a wide range of motion. Flexibility plays a vital role in the functioning of all individuals especially athletes. Common tests done to measure one’s flexibility include the sit-and-reach test and the shoulder joint reach flexibility test. And the common techniques to increase flexibility include ballistic and static stretching.
Ballistic stretching is a short-duration, high-force stretch that involves bouncing movements to stretch muscles. Static stretching is the most common type that uses slow and steady movements that take the muscles to a point of slight tension with force slowly applied to generate a greater stretch.
Body Composition
This is the percentage of body fat, or the ratio of muscle to fat in the body. Having a higher percentage of body fat than lean muscles has shown to increase the risk of heart diseases, stroke, and diabetes. Doing cardiovascular exercises and resistance training, along with a healthy diet, can help in regulating the amount of fat in the body, as well as increase muscle mass.
Agility
It refers to a person’s ability to start, stop, and change directions quickly. This can be increased if the person does a series of footwork drills and some exercises that require them to adjust their body’s position, speed, and direction quickly.
Balance
This refers to controlling one’s body positions while either standing still or during movement. Balance can be tested by standing on one leg with eyes closed for 30 seconds. This can be improved by increasing one’s core strength.
Coordination
This is about making movements work together smoothly. This usually consists of both upper and lower body movements being performed simultaneously. This can be improved by performing exercises that require the individual to use the upper body muscles and lower body muscle groups at the same time. One test done to measure this by throwing a ball on a wall and trying to catch it while standing on one leg.
Power
This refers to the ability to use muscle strength quickly. This can be tested by performing a vertical jump or a standing long jump. Ways to increase power include increasing the force-producing capabilities of muscles, decreasing the time it takes to move across a distance, and increasing the distance a force acts on the body. To increase overall power, one should engage in total body strength training, increase their flexibility, and have a sharp mental focus.
Reaction Time
This is how quickly an individual responds to a stimulus. One simple test to measure reaction time is through a Reaction Time Ruler Test or a Reaction Time Tester that can be found on the internet.
Speed
This refers to performing a movement in a short period of time. This can be measured by timing a 40-year dash or a 30 meter sprint. Increasing one’s speed can be done by sprinting down a hill while wearing a weighted vest.
What Are the Benefits of Performing Physical Activities?
- Regular exercise can help in preventing heart diseases and stroke by strengthening the heart muscles, lowering the levels of bad cholesterol and increasing the levels of good cholesterol, improving blood flow, and increasing the heart’s working capacity.
- Engaging in physical activities can reduce blood pressure in hypertensive people. It can also reduce body fat, which is associated with high blood pressure.
- By reducing fat, physical activities can also help in preventing and controlling non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus.
- Physical activities can help in reducing body fat by building muscle mass and improving the body’s ability to use up calories. When combined with proper nutrition, it can further help in weight control and prevention of obesity.
- By increasing muscle strength and improving flexibility, regular physical activities can help prevent back pain.
- Regular weighted or resistance exercise routines help promote bone formation and may even prevent many forms of bone loss that is associated with aging.
- Research has shown that regular exercise can improve your mood and your outlook in life. Exercising will likely reduce the risk of depression and anxiety, and help you to manage stress effectively.

What Is the Definition of a Logo?
Logo, the abbreviation of logotype, is taken from the Greek word logos—meaning, “word”—and typos—meaning, imprint. It refers to the graphical symbol commonly used by commercial businesses, organizations and even individuals to gain recognition.
A logo may either be the symbol itself without the text, or it could be the other way around, in which it will only consist of the company’s name written in a stylized way and no symbol. But a logo can also have both symbol and text.
FAQs before Deciding to Make your Own Logo
- Would the addition of a logo be beneficial to my brand? In other words, would a logo boost, enhance or highlight my overall purpose?
- Does it make sense for me to have a logo? Keep in mind that having a logo could make brand recognition much easier and thereby customers could recognize your brand just on your symbol alone.
- What are my competitors doing? Try to set yourself apart from your competitors but you also want to be consistent within your industry.
How Can a Logo Benefit a Business?
Helps Make a Generic Name Unique
If your name is simply descriptive, the addition of a logo could add to the uniqueness element of your whole brand. That uniqueness element is practically what most businesses should strive for, setting yourself apart from the competition in your industry.
Gives Your Product or Service Its Own Personality
Think of virtually any famous company and how it would affect them if their logo did not exist. Would their brands be as strong today if that image wasn’t imprinted on the minds of most consumers? Would those brands have the same personality based on name alone?
Establishes Brand Identity
One of the objectives of building up a brand identity is to get clients to remember your identity and to return to you on numerous occasions. Ideally, clients will remember you by your name alone. But, without a doubt, images stick in people’s minds a lot easier than just words. By incorporating a name and a logo together, it makes your business that much closer to getting that customer to remember you.

What Are Some Habits to Getting Healthy?
Have a Glass or Two of Water before Every Meal
When you drink a glass of water before you eat your meal, it will make you feel a little more full and will prevent you from eating past the point of hunger.
Eat One Really Healthy Meal per Day
In one day, pick just one meal, then change what you eat. You may have a food high in protein that’s about the size of your palm, then a fruit or vegetable or both, then a few nuts. It may not be much, but it is actually healthier than your usual meals.
Be Active in the Noon Time
This is most applicable to employees who have an hour of lunch break. After eating your lunch, spend the rest of the break to take a walk. This way, you’ll be able to burn a few calories, some stress, and feel better when you get back to work.
