Origin of Valentine’s Day
This type of event originated way back in the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia, a fertility celebration commemorated annually on February 15. Pope Gelasius I changed this pagan festival as a Christian feast day roughly AD 496, proclaiming February 14 to be St. Valentine’s Day. Hence, up until today, we celebrate Valentine’s every 14th of February.
Valentine’s Day is not just for couples to celebrate. However, others may feel a little bit lonely and sad, especially those who do not have a significant other.
