Free Parole Officer Job Description

Your role as a Parole Officer will challenge you to supervise persons released from prison on parole or probation, to ensure they are honoring the terms of their release while transitioning back into the community. You will be responsible for facilitating and promoting positive behavioral change through risk-based supervision and rehabilitation programs, which ultimately assist clients to reintegrate into society as law-abiding citizens.
Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies
A bachelor's degree in criminal justice, social work, psychology, or a related field.
Robust communication skills and the ability to manage difficult and potentially volatile situations.
Sound experience with case management and counseling techniques.
Sound knowledge of the regulations and laws regarding parole and probation.
A valid driver's license.
Responsibilities and Duties
As a Parole Officer, you will be expected to:
Supervise and monitor parolees to ensure compliance with the terms of release.
Conduct routine checks at parolees' homes and workplaces.
Conduct assessments and create individualized re-entry plans.
Collaborate with social service providers, family, and other community resources.
Test parolees for drug use and report violations of parole conditions.
Maintain detailed case records and prepare reports for the parole board or courts when required.
Necessary Experience
A successful candidate must have:
At least two years experience working within social services, counseling, or a similar field.
Prior experience working with populations on probation and parole is strongly desired.
