Early Childhood Evaluation Guidelines

This Early Childhood Assessment Checklist is designed to evaluate the developmental milestones and readiness for school in young children. The aim is to provide a comprehensive examination of your child's growth and learning readiness.

Instructions: Kindly mark each task with a checkmark upon its successful completion. This will help you keep track your evaluation process.

1. Physical Development:

Gross Motor Skills:

  • Walks independently for a distance without stumbling.

  • Jumps with both feet leaving the ground.

  • Pedals a tricycle smoothly.

Fine Motor Skills:

  • Strings small beads onto a string or pipe cleaner.

  • Holds and uses a child-safe scissors with some precision.

  • Builds a tower of at least six blocks.

2. Social and Emotional Development:

Social Skills:

  • Engages in cooperative play with peers.

  • Takes turns during group activities or games.

  • Greets others and responds appropriately to greetings.

Emotional Regulation:

  • Expresses frustration using words rather than physical actions.

  • Comforts a peer who is upset or sad.

  • Identifies and names basic emotions in themselves and others.

3. Cognitive Development:

Language Skills:

  • Names familiar objects in pictures or the environment.

  • Follows a sequence of two to three simple instructions.

  • Engages in make-believe play with others, using language.

Problem-Solving:

  • Completes a simple three-piece puzzle independently.

  • Recognizes and matches basic shapes.

  • Demonstrates curiosity by asking "why" or "how" questions.

Memory:

  • Recalls and repeats a short nursery rhyme or song.

  • Points to body parts when asked (e.g., nose, ears).

  • Recognizes and greets familiar individuals by name.

4. Adaptive Skills:

Self-Help Skills:

  • Brushes teeth independently with minimal assistance.

  • Puts on and takes off shoes without help.

  • Washes hands and face with some guidance.

Daily Living Skills:

  • Follows a basic morning routine, including getting dressed and brushing teeth.

  • Identifies and follows safety rules, such as crossing the street.

  • Cleans up toys and materials after play.

5. Communication Skills:

Receptive Language:

  • Listens and responds appropriately to a short story or conversation.

  • Identifies and points to familiar objects when named.

  • Understands and follows simple one-step directions.

Expressive Language:

  • Uses two to three-word phrases to communicate needs.

  • Describes or talks about a recent experience or event.

  • Participates in show-and-tell, sharing information with peers.
