Editor Contract

THIS CONTRACT is made and entered into this [Date] by and between [Editor's Name], hereinafter referred to as the “Editor”, and [Client's Name], hereinafter referred to as the “Client”.

1. Services

The Editor agrees to provide the following editing services to the Client:

1.1 Description of editing services

The editing services will primarily involve comprehensive copyediting, including but not limited to grammar and punctuation correction, style consistency, clarity improvements, and overall coherence enhancement.

1.2 Scope of work

The project encompasses editing a 100-page manuscript with a word count of approximately 30,000 words. The specific tasks include proofreading for typographical errors, correcting grammatical mistakes, ensuring consistency in formatting, and enhancing readability.

1.3 Any additional services agreed upon by both parties

In addition to the specified editing tasks, both parties have agreed to conduct a thorough review of citations and references to ensure accuracy and adherence to the chosen style guide. Additionally, the Editor will provide a final proofreading check before the manuscript is considered complete.

2. Timeline

The services about editing that are outlined in this contract shall be fully completed within a time frame of four weeks. This time frame begins from the date this contract is officially signed by both parties involved. However, it should be noted that if both parties come to a mutual agreement in writing to revise this time frame, the stipulated four-week time frame may be altered or extended.

3. Payment:

In consideration of the editing services provided, the Client agrees to pay the Editor the sum of $1000 according to the following terms:

  • Payment schedule:

    The payment will be made in two installments. 50% of the total amount ($500) is due upon signing this contract, and the remaining 50% ($500) is due upon completion of the editing services.

  • Payment method:

    Payment shall be made via bank transfer to the Editor's designated account.

  • Late payment penalties, if any:

    A late payment penalty of 5% of the outstanding balance will be incurred for payments not received within 14 days of the due date.

4. Rights and Ownership

The Client, upon providing the original content for editing, continues to retain all rights and remain the sole owner of said content. Regardless of the extent of the editing performed, the Editor does not stake claim to any rights or assume ownership over the content that has been edited.

5. Confidentiality

Both of the involved parties have reached an agreement that they will uphold and ensure the maintenance of confidentiality concerning any sensitive information that is being exchanged during the process of editing.

6. Revisions:

Every client, upon receiving their edited content, is granted the privilege of having two revisions within the stipulated time of two weeks. If the client desires to make further revisions surpassing the provided limit, it must be noted that additional charges will be incurred.

7. Termination

Either party may terminate this contract with written notice if the other party breaches any terms herein. In the event of termination, the Client shall pay for the services rendered up to the termination date.

8. Governing Law

The terms, understanding, and interpretation of this contract will be governed by and must be constructed by the existing laws and regulations set forth by the jurisdiction of [Insert Jurisdiction].

9. Entire Agreement

This contract constitutes the entire agreement between the parties concerning the subject matter herein and supersedes all prior agreements and understandings, whether written or oral.
