OAKVILLE PARKING BYLAWS

Section I: Definitions

1.1 Definitions

In this bylaw, unless the context otherwise requires:

  • "Vehicle" means any device in, upon, or by which any person or property is or may be transported or drawn upon a highway.

  • "Parking Space" means any area or place set aside, marked, designated, or intended for the parking of vehicles.

  • "Permit" means a valid parking permit issued by the Town of Oakville or its authorized agents.

  • "Resident" means an individual residing within the boundaries of the Town of Oakville.

Section II: Parking Regulations

2.1 Parking Restrictions
No person shall park or leave any vehicle upon any street, highway, or public place within the Town of Oakville in contravention of the provisions of this bylaw or any other applicable parking regulations.

2.2 Parking Permits

The Town of Oakville may issue parking permits for designated areas or zones, subject to the terms and conditions specified in the permit and this bylaw.

Section III: Parking Spaces

3.1 Designation of Parking Spaces

The Town of Oakville shall designate parking spaces within its jurisdiction, including but not limited to on-street parking, parking lots, and municipal garages.

3.2 Parking Restrictions

Parking spaces may be designated for specific purposes or time limits, including but not limited to a) Short-term parking for visitors and customers. b) Long-term parking for residents and employees. c) Accessible parking for individuals with disabilities.

Section IV: Parking Enforcement

4.1 Parking Enforcement Officers

The Town of Oakville may appoint parking enforcement officers authorized to enforce the provisions of this bylaw and issue parking tickets or fines for violations.

4.2 Parking Ticket

Any person found to violate this bylaw may be issued a parking ticket, which shall specify the nature of the violation, the amount of the fine, and instructions for payment or dispute.

Section V: Permit Parking

5.1 Issuance of Parking Permits

The Town of Oakville may issue parking permits to residents and businesses for designated parking areas or zones, subject to availability and compliance with the terms and conditions specified in the permit.

5.2 Permit Fees

The Town of Oakville may charge fees for parking permits, which shall be determined by resolution of the Town Council and published in a schedule of fees.

Section VI: Penalties and Enforcement

6.1 Penalties

Any person found guilty of violating any provision of this bylaw may be subject to fines, penalties, or other enforcement measures as prescribed by law.

6.2 Enforcement

This bylaw may be enforced by any person designated by the Town of Oakville, including parking enforcement officers, police officers, and municipal bylaw enforcement officers.

Section VII: Amendments and Repeal

7.1 Amendments

This bylaw may be amended, repealed, or replaced by resolution of the Town Council of Oakville, provided that notice of any proposed amendments or repeal is given by the requirements of the Municipal Act.

Section VIII: Interpretation

8.1 Interpretation

This bylaw shall be interpreted and applied by the laws of Ontario and the Town of Oakville's municipal code.

Section IX: Effective Date

9.1 Effective Date

This bylaw shall come into force and effect on the date of its passing by the Town Council of Oakville.

10.1 Short Title

This bylaw may be cited as the "Oakville Parking Bylaw."
