Orienteering Bylaws
Article 1: Name and Purpose
1.1 Name: The name of this organization shall be [YOUR NAME] Orienteering Club, from now on referred to as "the Club."
1.2 Purpose: The Club shall promote the sport of orienteering, provide opportunities for members to participate in orienteering events, and foster a sense of community among orienteers.
Article 2: Membership
2.1 Eligibility: Membership in the Club shall be open to all individuals who support the purpose of the Club and abide by its bylaws and policies.
2.2 Categories: The Club shall have the following categories of membership:

Individual Membership: Open to individuals.

Family Membership: Open to households comprising multiple individuals.
2.3 Rights and Responsibilities: All members shall have the right to participate in Club events and activities. Members are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that upholds the values of the Club and promotes the safety and enjoyment of all participants.
Article 3: Governance
3.1 Officers: The officers of the Club shall consist of a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer, whom the membership shall elect.
3.2 Duties of Officers:

The President shall preside over meetings, represent the Club in official matters, and provide leadership.

The Vice President shall assist the President and assume the duties of the President in their absence.

The Secretary shall keep records of meetings and correspondence.

The Treasurer shall manage the Club's finances and keep accurate records of income and expenditures.
3.3 Elections: Officers shall be elected by a simple majority vote of the membership at the annual meeting. Nominations may be made from the floor.
Article 4: Events and Competitions
4.1 Event Organization: The Club shall organize orienteering events according to established guidelines and safety standards. Event organizers shall be appointed by the Executive Committee.
4.2 Competition Rules: Competitions shall be conducted according to rules established by the International Orienteering Federation (IOF) and any additional rules specified by the Club.
4.3 Safety Guidelines: The safety of participants shall be paramount in all Club events. Event organizers shall implement appropriate safety measures and provide adequate information to participants regarding potential risks.
Article 5: Disciplinary Measures
5.1 Conduct: Members are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the values of the Club. Misconduct, including but not limited to cheating, harassment, or behavior detrimental to the Club's reputation, may result in disciplinary action.
5.2 Disciplinary Procedures: Allegations of misconduct shall be investigated by the Executive Committee. If misconduct is substantiated, disciplinary measures may include warnings, suspension, or expulsion from the Club, depending on the severity of the offense.
Article 6: Amendments
6.1 Procedure: These bylaws may be amended by a two-thirds majority vote of the membership at a regular or special meeting called for that purpose. Proposed amendments must be submitted to the membership at least thirty days before the vote.
6.2 Review These bylaws shall be reviewed periodically by the Executive Committee to ensure they remain relevant and effective.
Article 7: Dissolution
7.1 Procedure: In the event of the dissolution of the Club, any remaining assets shall be distributed to one or more organizations dedicated to the promotion of orienteering, as determined by the membership.
7.2 Notice: Notice of dissolution shall be given to all members at least thirty days before the final meeting.
7.3 Disposition of Assets: Any assets remaining after the settlement of debts and liabilities shall be distributed.
7.4 Compliance: These bylaws shall comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
7.5 Adoption: These bylaws shall be adopted upon approval by a majority vote of the membership.
7.6 Effective Date: These bylaws shall become effective immediately upon adoption.
