Chores Contract

This Chores Contract ("Contract") is entered into by and between [Your Name] ("Parent/Guardian") and [Child's Name] ("Child"), effective as of [Effective Date].

1. Responsibilities:

1.1 The Child agrees to complete the following chores according to the schedule provided by the Parent/Guardian:

Kitchen:

  • Washing dishes, pots, and pans

  • Wiping down countertops and tables

  • Sweeping or vacuuming the floor

  • Taking out the trash and recycling

Bathroom:

  • Cleaning the sink, mirror, and toilet

  • Restocking toilet paper and hand soap

  • Sweeping or mopping the floor

Bedroom:

  • Making the bed

  • Putting away clothes and personal items

  • Keeping the room tidy and organized

Living Areas:

  • Dusting furniture

  • Vacuuming or sweeping floors

  • Straightening up pillows and throws

Other:

  • Helping with laundry (folding and putting away clothes)

  • Watering plants

  • Feeding pets and cleaning their area

1.2 The Child agrees to complete chores in a thorough manner, following any specific instructions provided by the Parent/Guardian.

1.3 The Child agrees to ask for help or clarification from the Parent/Guardian if unsure about how to complete a chore.

1.4 The Parent/Guardian agrees to provide guidance, support, and necessary supplies for the Child to complete the chores.

1.5 The Parent/Guardian may assign additional chores or change the chore schedule as needed, with reasonable notice given to the Child.

1.6 The Parent/Guardian agrees to recognize and appreciate the Child's efforts in completing chores, providing positive reinforcement when appropriate.

2. Frequency:

2.1 The Child agrees to complete chores on the following schedule:

  • Daily Chores: These chores are to be completed every day and include tasks such as making the bed, tidying up personal items, and feeding pets.

  • Weekly Chores: These chores are to be completed once a week and include tasks such as vacuuming, dusting, and cleaning the bathroom.

  • Monthly Chores: These chores are to be completed once a month and include tasks such as cleaning windows, organizing closets, and deep cleaning specific areas.

2.2 The Parent/Guardian will provide a written or electronic schedule detailing which chores are to be completed on which days and at what times.

2.3 The Child agrees to adhere to the schedule provided by the Parent/Guardian and to complete all assigned chores within the specified time frame.

2.4 In the event that a chore cannot be completed on the assigned day, the Child agrees to notify the Parent/Guardian as soon as possible to reschedule the chore.

2.5 The Parent/Guardian agrees to review the chore schedule regularly and make adjustments as needed based on the household's needs and the Child's schedule.

2.6 The Parent/Guardian agrees to provide reasonable flexibility in the chore schedule to accommodate the Child's other responsibilities, such as schoolwork and extracurricular activities.

3. Schedule:

3.1 The Parent/Guardian will create a chore schedule and communicate it to the Child in advance. The schedule will include the following details:

  • Daily Chores: Specific tasks to be completed each day, such as making the bed, tidying up personal items, and feeding pets.

  • Weekly Chores: Tasks to be completed once a week, such as vacuuming, dusting, and cleaning the bathroom.

  • Monthly Chores: Tasks to be completed once a month, such as cleaning windows, organizing closets, and deep cleaning specific areas.

3.2 The schedule will also include any additional or special chores that may arise, such as preparing for guests or helping with special projects around the house.

3.3 The schedule will be posted in a visible location in the household and may also be shared electronically for easy reference.

3.4 The Parent/Guardian agrees to review the schedule regularly with the Child to ensure understanding and compliance.

3.5 The Child agrees to follow the schedule provided by the Parent/Guardian and to complete all assigned chores within the specified time frame.

3.6 In the event that a chore cannot be completed on the assigned day, the Child agrees to notify the Parent/Guardian as soon as possible to reschedule the chore.

4. Completion:

The child has given his/her agreement and consent to carry out and finish all the tasks and chores that have been assigned to him/her. He/she pledges to do this not only in a timely fashion, which means that no deadlines will be missed, but also in a thorough manner, ensuring that every detail is attended to and the work is done to the best of his/her ability.

5. Consequences:

5.1 Failure to complete chores may result in the following consequences:

  • First Instance: Verbal warning and discussion about the importance of completing chores.

  • Second Instance: Loss of privileges, such as screen time or outings with friends, for a specified period.

  • Third Instance: Additional chores assigned as a consequence, in addition to completing the originally assigned chores.

  • Fourth Instance: A written reflection on the importance of responsibility and contributing to the household, to be discussed with the Parent/Guardian.

  • Fifth Instance: Time-out or other disciplinary measures, to be determined by the Parent/Guardian.

5.2 Consistency in completing chores and demonstrating responsibility may lead to positive reinforcement:

  • Verbal praise and acknowledgment of the Child's efforts.

  • Rewards such as allowance increases or special treats.

  • Additional privileges, such as choosing a family activity or movie.

5.3 The Parent/Guardian agrees to apply consequences and rewards consistently and fairly, taking into account the Child's age and understanding.

6. Rewards:

The Child may be rewarded for consistent and thorough completion of chores:

  • Allowance

  • Extra screen time

  • Special privileges

7. Communication:

The Parent or Guardian along with the Child, both mutually agree that they will make consistent and genuine efforts to have an open line of communication which is carried out respectfully and honestly.

This commitment applies to discussing topics such as responsibilities around daily house chores, the organization and planning of schedules as well as discussions around any potential issues, problems or concerns that may arise.

8. Amendments:

This Contract holds the possibility of being subjected to amendments, changes, or alterations at any moment. However, this is contingent upon a unified agreement that comes as a result of mutual consultation and consent between two parties involved, specifically, the Parent or Guardian and the Child.

9. Termination:

This Contract, as per its terms and conditions, contains a provision that allows for termination. Either of the involved parties has the right to exercise this provision, given that they provide a notice period of at least two weeks in advance of the termination date.
