Free Vehicle Inspection Checklist

Exterior Inspection

• Check for dents, scratches, and rust on all body panels.

• Inspect the condition of the windshield and windows for any cracks or chips.

• Check the condition and functionality of all exterior lights

• Check tire condition, including tread depth and signs of wear or damage.

• Ensure the side mirrors are intact and properly adjusted

Interior Inspection

• Check the condition of the seats, including upholstery and adjustment mechanisms.

• Ensure that the dashboard indicators and gauges are functioning properly.

• Test all interior lights and switches (dome light, map light, power windows).

• Verify the operation of the HVAC system (heater, air conditioner, defroster).

• Inspect the condition and functionality of seatbelts.

Under the Hood Inspection

• Check the level and condition of engine oil.

• Inspect the belts and hoses for wear, cracks, or leaks.

• Examine the battery terminals and connections for corrosion.

• Ensure the coolant level is appropriate and the radiator cap is secure.

• Check the brake fluid level and quality.

Braking System Inspection

• Check the thickness of the brake pads and shoes.

• Inspect the brake rotors and drums for wear, damage, or warping.

• Verify the condition of the brake lines and hoses for any leaks or cracks.

• Ensure the parking brake is functioning properly.

• Test the brake pedal for proper travel and firmness.

Road Test

• Assess the vehicle’s steering response and alignment on a straight road.

• Test the acceleration and deceleration performance.

• Listen for any unusual noises during the drive (engine, transmission, exhaust).

• Assess the vehicle's handling and suspension over bumps and turns.

• Verify the effectiveness of the brakes under different speeds and conditions.
