Free Forklift Inspection Checklist

Purpose

The purpose of this forklift inspection checklist is to ensure the safe and efficient operation of forklifts in the workplace. Regular inspections help identify potential hazards, ensure compliance with safety regulations, and maintain the equipment in optimal condition to prevent accidents and downtime.

Pre-Operational Check

• Check for visible damage, including cracks or deformities.

• Ensure all fluid levels (oil, water, and hydraulic) are at appropriate levels.

• Inspect tires for wear, proper inflation, and damage.

• Check for any leaks under the forklift.

• Ensure the forks are in good condition and securely attached.

Operational Check

• Test the horn, lights, and backup alarm for proper functionality.

• Check that all gauges are operational and reading correctly.

• Ensure that brakes, including the parking brake, are working effectively.

• Verify that the steering mechanism operates smoothly.

• Test the lift, tilt, and auxiliary functions for proper operation.

Safety Equipment Check

• Ensure that seatbelts are functional and in good condition.

• Check that the fire extinguisher is present and properly charged.

• Inspect the overhead guard for damage or missing bolts.

• Verify that the operator's manual is in the designated location and is readable.

• Check that all decals and warning labels are legible and intact.

Battery/Electric System Check

• Ensure that the battery is fully charged and properly connected.

• Check for any corrosion on battery terminals.

• Inspect battery cables for frayed or damaged insulation.

• Verify that all electrical connections are secure.

• Ensure that the battery compartment is clean and free of debris.

Cooling System Check

• Check the radiator for leaks or obstructions.

• Ensure that the coolant level is adequate and the right type is used.

• Inspect coolant hoses for cracks, leaks, or wear.

• Check the fan and fan belt for proper tension and condition.

• Confirm that the coolant reservoir cap is properly secured.
