SURVEILLANCE OFFICER

Job Summary

Safety and security is a critical part of any business and its operations. In this age of advancement, it is essential for any business to employ a security system at par with technology. This is where the surveillance officer plays a critical part in monitoring personnel, customers, and property. Through the use of state of the art technology such as closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras strategically placed in locations throughout the property using a console with cutting edge audio and video monitoring systems, the surveillance officer ensures that policies and procedures are followed in conformance to state or national laws and regulations while keeping the health and the safety of personnel and customers in mind. The surveillance officer must be a team player that acts on orders from superiors and is able to work in different shifts assigned.

Job Responsibilities

Surveillance officers must be on constant alert keeping careful watch using high tech monitoring equipment over an establishment’s customers and personnel against irregular or criminal behavior such as theft or vandalism. Key responsibilities of a surveillance officer include the following:

  • Ensure the safety of customers, personnel and property of the establishment, protecting them in accordance with state or national laws and regulations.
  • Monitors the flow of customers coming in and out of the premises including all personnel of the establishment or company.
  •  Regularly sweep the establishment to monitor irregularities and any safety and security related issues.
  • Informs security personnel through radio of any emergency happening such as medical emergencies for immediate action or assistance
  • Coordinates with the proper authorities such as the police in cases of extreme emergency like robbery or fire emergency for immediate response or attention
  • Documents all unusual events detailing all available facts and information regarding incidents during the shift
  • Actively monitors all the establishment’s access points
  • Document and report any malfunctioning surveillance equipment 
  • Does other duties delegated by supervising officer as needed


Skills and Qualifications

General Qualifications

  • At least a high school diploma. College education is a plus.
  • Current state driver’s license
  • No felony convictions

Knowledge and Experience

  • Working understanding of surveillance systems

  • Prior police or military experience

Physical Requirements
