ADVERTISING MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION

The Advertising Manager handles all tasks related to the marketing of goods or services and making them available within an organization. This position requires extensive research to find the potential market. Tasks like creating and managing focus groups, outlining goals and objectives for the Advertising Department or the Advertising Division of the Sales and Marketing Department, initiating and supervising the development and creation of themes and concepts, advertising storyboards and copywriting materials, and setting the budget for ad campaigns and projects are also within the jurisdiction of the Advertising Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

Generally, this position handles all the flow and distribution of marketing information about organization's goods and services to the public. Specifically, the Advertising Manager:

  • Is in-charge of developing advertising campaigns, including print, radio, television and online advertisements.
  • Sets financial goals and objectives for the Advertising Department or Advertising Division of the Sales and Marketing Department, including budget plans
  • Coordinates with advertising staff tasked to develop and publish ads
  • Collaborates with account executives to plan out ad campaigns
  • Engages sales and other staff to contribute ideas for the ad campaign
  • Administers broadcast or film shoots for visual, live action ad campaigns
  • Takes charge of or instructs campaign team in the creation of direct mail initiatives
  • Evaluates and optimizes the effectiveness of ad campaigns
  • Develops, assesses, authorizes, and revises, as needed, advertising copy
  • Supervises all purchases related to media advertising
  • Handles the selection of partner agencies
  • Looks for or determines target audiences
  • Decides with finality any or all plans the partner agency comes up with    
  • Manages advertising staff output
  • Approves budget estimates for campaigns
  • Serves as the intermediary between companies looking to start advertising campaigns and an advertising or promotion agency that handles ad placement and development
  • Ensures that in-house accounts are organized and in order
  • Spearheads campaign presentations
  • Approves campaign budgets as may be deemed necessary
  • Oversees the casting of personalities or celebrities for commercials, voice recordings and other campaign-related activities
