Even way back then, mind mapping has even historical records of its usefulness. For example, Porphyry of Tyros has used this graphical record in visualizing Aristotle’s concept categories (Wikipedia).
To make a mind map of your particular project, follow these guidelines below.
1. Seize the Subject
First and foremost, identify first the key subject of your project mind map. This will serve as your starting point, your central idea. Place this at the most central point of your project mind map’s layout. Usually, the mind map’s subject is yet a general or big idea.
2. Associate Further Details
From your central idea, branch out into deeper areas to cover. Segment them accordingly. Through this step, you should begin to specify ideas and segregate them from one another. For example, from your project subject, you are going to branch out to its Development Process. Another branch can be the Production or Marketing Process.
3. Graphically Align
As a visualizing diagram, it’s one feature of the mind map that you can enjoy, employing of colors and patterns. Colors help you classify key ideas from one another. Patterns let you enclose your textual details and organize them accordingly. Nonetheless, make sure that it does not compromise its functionality. Make colors subtle, not too striking, and patterns should be of the same formatting.
4. Caption Briefly
In captioning your project mind map elements, do not write in overlength, complex sentences. Input only of meaningful, comprehensive keywords, or phrases.
5. Observe Specificity
Most importantly, jot down your ideas, concepts, and wordings with absolute specificity in labels. Always ensure that one branch has its own focus from the other. Avoid ambiguous labels that may lead to subjective interpretations.
