Monopoly has been released in various sizes that range from the small grab-and-go size to a life-size one that was used in a short-lived TV show of the same name. While the right Monopoly size would depend on the individual’s personal preferences, the classic board game has evolved and adapted to suit different markets.

Monopoly Sizes Standard

Classic Monopoly

The traditional Monopoly board game is square shaped and its board can be physically folded to fit in a rectangular box. Since it is square, both the length and width are equal. In other words, the original and classic version of the Monopoly game is 20 inches × 20 inches or measured in centimeters, the dimensions are 50 × 50 cm.

Travel Size Monopoly

A traditional Monopoly set is relatively bulky and inconvenient to bring around. But the board game manufacturers still saw an opportunity and chose to address the ‘problem’. They came out with a portable and travel-size version of the same game. The Grab and Go edition is essentially a compact and mobile version of the original Monopoly and is available on Amazon. Its product dimensions measure 6.26 inches in width and 9.25 inches in height.

Monopoly Sizes for Digital

The original Monopoly is a board game with physical pieces and equipment. But these days in the Information and Digital Age, people can create and customize their version of the game with the use of online tools and applications. The ‘right’ digital specifications would depend on the preferred platform or application of the user; but if you were to base the size on the actual board game, the recommended dimensions would be 20 inches × 20 inches with a minimum pixel size of 300 DPI.

Box

A traditional Monopoly board game set comes with various equipment. When it is sold in retail stores, the game comes in a box that measures roughly 40.5 cm × 27 cm. Its equivalent measurements in inches are 16” in length and 10.75” in width.

Cards

A Monopoly game is not complete without its cards. In the classic version of the game, there are three major types of cards namely Chance Cards, Community Chest Cards, and Title Deed Cards. All these cards have approximately the same dimensions which are 3.125 inches × 2 inches or 8 cm × 5 cm.

The play money used in Monopoly has a standard size of 10 cm × 5 cm. In inches, the dimensions measure 4 inches in width and 2 inches in height. They also come in a variety of colors and denominations.

Monopoly Sizes for Business

The Monopoly board game is a commercially successful product. When it comes to retail business, the standard Monopoly size of 50 cm × 50 cm (20 × 20 inches) ought to apply. Of course, there are over 300 editions of the board game, each slightly tweaked to serve a particular purpose and commercial market. For example, the smallest Monopoly game in the world only has a box size of 1.27 × 4.45 cm and is available on both Target and Amazon.

Monopoly Sizes for Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop is a popular graphic design tool that can be used to create customized Monopoly game sets. When choosing a size, you can set the measurements to 20 × 20 inches but make sure that the pixel settings are not lower than 300 DPI. With Photoshop, you can insert various clipart for the play money, customize the background color of the game board, and so much more.

Monopoly Sizes for Adobe Illustrator

An excellent alternative to Photoshop is Adobe Illustrator. If you plan on using Illustrator to create a DIY Monopoly game, you can use the standard square-shaped board with 20 inches for width and 20 inches for height. For good-quality printing, set the DPI to at least 300. And as for the Monopoly cards and money pieces, the standard size for the former would be 8 cm × 5 cm and 10 cm × 5 cm for the play money. Note that you can choose to either follow these recommended sizes or make them bigger or smaller, depending on your preferences.
