How to conduct the Action Research ?
Step 1: Identification of the problem area
The professional and the expert have several questions that they wish to investigate, however, it is important to limit the questions that are meaningful and doable in the confines of the daily activities. The careful planning in the first stage will limit the false start and frustrations in it. There are various areas to consider before investing the time and effort into the research process.
Step 2: Collection and organization of data
The collection and gathering of the data is a significant step in deciding what are the actions that are to be taken. There are multiple sources of information and data that are used for a better understanding of the scope of happenings. Many tools and instruments are used for the collection of data like the interviews, portfolios, journals, diary, videotapes, photos, memos, case studies, etc.
Step 3: Interpretation of information
The identification and analysis of the major themes. Depending upon the circumstances, the professionals might use some kind of data that is categorised as the individual data and the subgroup data. Some of the data are quantifiable and shall be analysed without the use of the statistics or technical assistance.
Step 4: Action based on data
Using the data from the information collection and the review of the current literature. Designing the plan of the action that would allow you to make the change and then study the changes. And it is important that only a single variable will be changed or altered.
Step 5: Reflection on the assessment
Assessing and evaluating the result of the intervention to determine if the improvements and the changes have occurred and taken place. It is to check that if there is any kind of improvement and is the data providing the evidence. If there are no such things, then what alterations can be created to the actions to elicit better results and consequences.
How does Action Research work?
Both the teacher and participant assist each other by working collaboratively. Then working with colleagues assists the teachers and principals in their respective professional growth. There is various type of research methods and out of which the action method is the disciplined inquiry done by the teacher with the intention that the research will inform and changes its practices in the coming future.
And in the action research implicating the idea that the teacher will start a cycle of posing questions, gathering the data, reflection and deciding the course of the actions. It is not the thing that comes to mind when we talk about the research. It is not the problem-solving in the sense of trying to find out what is wrong, but it is the quest for the knowledge of how to improve it.
It is nothing about doing research on or about people or finding out all the valuable information on the topic fetching for the correct answers. It is more likely that the people work on their skills, techniques and strategies or plan. It is primarily about the things that we can do in a much better way rather than why should you do certain things and how can you bring better things that will create an impact on both students and others.
The main concern of the action research is to solve the local issues. There is the requirement of the little formal type of training. The intention is the identification and bringing out the solutions to the problem of the local concern. It is mainly carried out by the local and professional ones. Then the use of the teacher- developed instruments.
