Why is Summative Assessment Important for Students?
While it is important for the students to work on their abilities, and skills and improve their capabilities and techniques throughout the learning process. It is equally important for the teachers to have proof that the students are learning and acquiring better skills and developing their capabilities.
The assessment is a documented piece of work that includes the test that is taken for the students to judge their learning acquisitions. This also helps the students to know where they are standing, how much they have improved and how much they need to improve.
The data that is collected with this summative assessment can help the teachers to learn about the areas that need to be improved to make the learning experience for the students better and upgraded.
This assessment also helps the teachers to reason out the area which are not necessary for the students to know and which should be part of the curriculum.
Summative Assessment vs Formative Assessment
Formative Assessments help the students identify their strengths and weaknesses. They help them to recognize the areas they need to work. Teachers can immediately identify the areas where the students are struggling to understand and therefore can develop immediate measures to help them. This is basically classroom learning and the issues are solved in the classroom itself.
Whereas summative assessment is a high level of assessments. They generally included mid-term exams, final projects, research papers, etc. This assessment is of high stake and of high point values.
