A statement of work is a professional document that is systematically used in the field of project management. It is the textual concept of the job description of a project. It describes project-specific tasks, deliverables, and deadlines for a supplier that provides the client with services. Usually, the official SOW also contains comprehensive specifications and pricing, including standard terms and conditions for legislation and governance. It is also an effective addition to a master service agreement or request for proposal (RFP).
Many formats and types of the statement of work models are specialized for the hardware or software solutions and samples mentioned in the proposal request. Many organizations develop their own personalized version of SOWs to satisfy common requests and proposals they get, which are unique or generalized. It is typically, however, notified by the top management priorities as well as feedback from the customer and/or user groups. A statement of work typically addresses subjects that include the purpose; the scope of work that describes the work to be done and specifies the hardware and software involved; the location of work including the location of hardware and software and where people will meet to do the work; the period of performance that specifies the allowable time for projects, such as start and finish time, number of hours that can be billed per week or month, and the schedule for the deliverables.
